Comicpalooza 2015

Can you believe summertime is practically here already?! How do I know that? Well, other than the extreme temperatures that are slowly teasing us right now, it's once again time for my FAVORITE convention of the year....: COMICPALOOZA!
That's right, I'll be very briefly making Houston my home from May 22nd thru the 25th for this fun-filled-four-day con which will undoubtedly be massacred with high fives & good times! My partner in art (& the womb), Lance, will also be there with his rad art including his newest, hardcover book, FOR THE TITLE. Definitely come by & pick one of these's hilariously funny! We'll be side by side at TABLES 1729 & 1731...
Here's a complex map to find our funny faces:

I'll have the regular goodies of art prints, shirts, stickers, buttons, original art, screen prints, blah, blah & blah as well as doing a limited number of commissions at the show (watercolor &/or ink). A special item I'll be releasing at the convention is my newest "Monster MugShot"! As a child, I somehow managed to sneak a viewing of EASILY one of the scariest movies to enter my head. The main actress in this scarring film will be a guest at Comicpalooza so I thought it was a perfect time to add this "monster" to my ongoing, horror series... That movie was 'The Exorcist', that actress was Linda Blair & that new "Monster MugShot" is Regan MacNeil:
Regan is lucky number 13 in the MugShot collection, so please swing by & pick up this little print of her (AND maybe get Linda Blair to vomit pea soup all over it tooooooo!;)
So all my newer stuff will be added to my online store shortly after the show, so please check that to see if there's some ugly art there to make you happy.
Also, be sure to follow me on Instagram & Twitter where I'll be having giveaways throughout the show(you obviously have to be present to do this)...FREE stuff truly rules over ALL other stuff!
Alright friends, really looking forward to hanging out...see you soon, Houston!

Heeeeeey Youuuuuuu Guuuuuuuuys!

So this past weekend was the 'Storm the Castle' event organized by Spratx & the friendly peeps from theCHIVE. They brought 30 artists together to paint murals in an abandoned warehouse in E. Austin following the theme of "Heroes/Icons". There was music, food trucks, art vendors, cold beer/water, free swag & a ton of great people….it was a blast!
After mulling over ideas on what I would paint for this event, I finally came upon a "hero" from my childhood that HAD to be painted. Yep…the disfigured, sweetheart that we've ALL impersonated numerous times with his unforgettable one-liners & catch phrases: SLOTH!!

Here's a quick, process video of me painting this big guy from photos taken by the lovely Hilary Hitt:

THANK YOU to everyone who came out. It was great seeing old faces & meeting new friends!
ALSO! The fine people at theCHIVE are currently holding a "Viewer's Choice" competition from all the murals created at the event. Go check them all out & if you think my SLOTH mural was "good enough",  please cast a vote for me! There's no sign up necessary,  just a quick click & you're done! You can also vote per IP address, so every phone, computer, iPad, tablet, whatever... each count as a separate vote.  VOTE HERE:
Thanks so much for your continued support! "Sloth…love…YOU!"

Storm the Castle

Hey, friends!
Just wanted to drop a quick note to let you know that I'll be doing some LIVE painting TOMORROW, Saturday, May 2nd, here in Austin at Spratx & theCHIVE's 'Storm the Castle' event.

30 artists are coming together & each creating a 10"x 8" mural following the theme of "Heroes/Icons". Not only will an overload of live art keep you entertained, but there will also be music, drinks & a plethora of food trucks to keep your belly entertained too!
There will be prizes given away to the hard working artists based on "Viewer's Choice", so I'd LOVE if you came out & supported them (& ME:).
So let's hang out tomorrow from 11am-6pm at a cool warehouse located at 2416 E. 6th St. It's FREE to everyone, even the kiddos & four legged kiddos too!
Hope to see you all there with your high five hands...

Making Friends at SXSW 2015..

Well…another SXSW has come & gone & even though this one was particularly WET, it was still a lot of fun! It was amazing meeting so many new artists through PowWowHawaii, Spratx & HOPE's reCreate event. AMAZING JOB to everyone involved!

Even though rain threatened us all week, the clouds parted just enough for the 30+ artists to gather at the Hope Outdoor Gallery this past Thursday & allow us to paint our hearts out. Here's my completed mural from the event:

I loved making these imaginary friends in the 6 hours I had (BIG thanks to my brother, Lance, for coming out & helping paint the wee wee), but I especially loved the REAL friends I made during that time. THANK YOU to everyone who came out to support this massive, art installation & the talented, hard working artists that made it possible. Your presence means the world to us all.

Back to the studio to cook up some new art…talk sooooooooooon.

SXSW Covered in PAINT!

South By South West has once again invaded Austin & the RIDICULOUS traffic that already exists here becomes RIDICULOUSLY TERRIBLE (with a lot of cuss words thrown in, of course). But let's not complain as SXSW brings in people & shows that are RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME! I'll be part of a few events this year, but one I really want to share with you is this Thursday's HOPE reCREATE Event at the HOPE Outdoor Gallery!

This is their third year of doing this during SXSW & I'm super excited to be back on the roster. On Thursday, March 19th, 30 local & international artists are all coming together to paint every inch of the GIANT, multi level structure know as the HOG (Hope Outdoor Gallery). I've been given an 18'x 11' section that I plan on trying to art all over & would love you ALL to come join me in watching magical colors appear! I'll be apologizing profusely to the wall as I ruin it, so I'll need all the high-five-encouragemnt I can get!
It starts at 10am & runs alllllllll day…. SEE YOU THERE!

"…it's The Movie Crypt!!"

You guys, there's an AMAZING event happening THIS WEDNESDAY, March 11th, at THE best theater in the WORLD: Alamo Drafthouse.
Friends & ridiculously talented filmmakers Adam Green & Joe Lynch have a killer podcast called The Movie Crypt (which I've mentioned many times before & which you ALL better be listening to by now!) which is hailed as one of Entertainment Weekly's "Top 20 Podcasts".

It's a hilarious, informative & inspiring filmmaker podcast that ANY fan of movies would enjoy. Adam & Joe will be recording a LIVE episode of the podcast at the Drafthouse as well as showing BOTH their newest films, DIGGING UP THE MARROW (inspired by the art of the monster magician, Alex Pardee) & EVERLY. I was lucky enough to see the Austin premiere of The Marrow a few weeks back & Everly last September at Fantastic Fest & YOU ALL MUST SEE THESE FILMS!…especially on the big screen. & NOW'S YOUR CHANCE!
Adam & Joe asked me to do a limited screen print for this special occasion & this is what i dug up:

These will be available the night of the show in VERY limited quantities all signed by Adam, Joe & myself, so get your tix NOW for the double feature/podcast recording RIGHT HERE. If any prints are leftover they will go up in my store shortly after.
Even if you're unable to attend, you can still watch both DIGGING UP THE MARROW and EVERLY on pretty much all VOD platforms. Watch them, tweet about them, share them with your friends which will make them happier friends….ENJOY!
See you guys at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar on Wednesday for a GREAT time! (& Highball karaoke room ridiculousness afterwards, of course!)

Happy New Year & stuff!

I wanted to take a quickie to not only THANK YOU ALL for your continued support of my terrible habit called "art" but to also share a quick, little update on some stuff that's recently come out. So, yeah…a THOUSAND, MILLION times "thank you" to everyone who took the time to come by my table at a convention, shake my hand at a gallery show, purchase some art from me, used any of your free time to just look at my art online or anywhere else & just for being awesome this past year! I made a lot of new friends in 2014 & created stronger bonds with old ones, so I'm super excited to see what 2015 brings.
But getting to just a couple of things I wanted to let share with you:
I was lucky enough to do a variant cover for an amazing comic book series put out by Comix Tribe this year called AND THEN EMILY WAS GONE. Written by John Lees with gnarly art from Iain Laurie, this 5-issue, horror tale tells the story of a girl who turns up missing surrounded by the "legend" of Bonnie Shaw, a creepy creature who steals children.  This David Lynchian series is a must read for not only giant fans of horror(like myself) but fans of great story telling, PERIOD. All five single issues have already been released with my variant cover coming out just a few weeks ago:
...Colored by the talented, Megan Wilson.

Also, something else caught my attention right at the end of 2014. I luckily stumbled upon a fun, comedic, horror short film that was posted online in December & it stayed STUCK IN MY HEAD after my first viewing.  Created by the McCoubrey Brothers(Peter & Luke) & obviously an amazing crew, 'THE GREY MATTER' is a pleasure to focus your eyeballs on. Along with solid acting from everyone involved, it's is simply pitched as:
"An office stiff wakes up in an alley mysteriously covered in blood. In the aftermath, he attracts the attention of his beautiful coworker, granting him a new lease on life…but something strange is afoot."
Go in knowing only that little bit of information & enjoy this 17-minute journey of oddball FUN that will also STICK IN YOUR HEAD. Watch it for FREE here.
After numerous veiwings, I couldn't help but draw a little something out since the imagery begged me to. I came up with this diddy that I hope you enjoy as much as I did the film:

Feel free to share my art & especially the link to THE GREY MATTER as it deserves to be seen by as many people as possible.

Again, THANK YOU for everything & I hope to see you ALL in 2015. May it be the best year yet!
